Hautvillers
Located in the heart of the Montagne de Reims vineyard, the village of Hautvillers is the cradle of champagne. It is in fact right here, in the former Benedictine abbey of Hautvillers, that the cellar monk Dom Pérignon discovered the method of champagnemaking wine in the 18th century. Dom Pérignon's tomb rests today in the choir of the Saint-Sindulphe abbey church. Hautvillers is also a charming wine village with houses decorated with pretty wrought iron signs.
The Verzy forest, located in the Montagne de Reims Regional Natural Park , is home to twisting beeches, the Faux, with unusual shapes to say the least. Steeped in mystery, these protected, particularly fragile trees can be discovered by walking the laid out path.

Epernay is a small town of 25,000 inhabitants. As the capital of Champagne, there are some good restaurants there. Please note: it is necessary to book in advance of your stay because the restaurants are very busy on weekends and it is often difficult to get a table at the last minute.

WALKS AND CYCLOTOURISM - BELT PATH CIRCUIT ABOVE THE GITE.
To enjoy a panoramic view of the town of Épernay, the walk follows the ring road. This old road dominates the town and runs alongside the forest. The climb is arduous but the reward is great. The path takes place between vineyards and houses, between gardens and cabins. Circuit created by the Épernay, Coteaux and Plaine de Champagne urban community.
BY BIKE: JOIN THE GREENWAY ON THE EDGE OF MARNE
The valley cycle routetravels 45km through the Champagne vineyards, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, to discover the riches of the Marne Valley and the Montagne de Reims Regional Natural Park.
